10 Best Songs By The 1975

1. Love It If We Made It – A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships (2018)

‘Love It If We Made It’ is the standout track on a record full of fantastic tunes. As well as being one of the band’s heaviest songs, it’s also packed with meaningful lyrics.

Healy dives into his frustrations with the world and grapples with climate change, racism, consumerism, war, and the dangers of the digital age. Whilst it can sometimes be annoying when bands get too political, the reason this song works is that Healy avoids sounding preachy. He isn’t offering any solutions to the problems he’s addressing. He simply hopes that we’ll get through them.

The percussion is another highlight. Daniel's aggressive drumming works perfectly alongside the vocal delivery and sounds terrific in a live setting. What’s more, the pulsing electronics help to create a sense of rising tension and momentum. Indeed, this track would have been amazing just as an instrumental.

‘Love It If We Made It’ is an anthem for the modern world. It’s angry and desperate, yet avoids being preachy or predictable. It will be very hard for The 1975 to top this song.
