10 Best Songs Where Hard Rock Bands Went Acoustic

9. Seasons of Wither - Aerosmith

Aerosmith was never the band that just became the biggest act in the world overnight. If you had asked them in the early days, none of the real magic attracted that much attention when they were cutting their teeth, with critics calling them a second rate Rolling Stones even after hearing songs like Dream On. It was back to the drawing board for the second record, and Seasons of Wither is where we saw a lot more character brought into the mix.

While most of Get Your Wings is still the blues soaked glory of the rest of the jam band scene around that time, this is a much more moody song, penned by Steven Tyler after finding the remnants of an old acoustic guitar in a dumpster outside the studio. Taking it into the studio and fixing it to the best of his ability, this is a much more somber note to come from the same guys who would become known for songs like Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way.

Setting the scene at sea, Steven seems to be taking on a character this time around, talking about a lady whom he has lost upon the waves and how his soul seems to become more tortured with each passing season. Compared to the Stones links that people love to tag on Aerosmith both then and now, this is the kind of record that almost belongs on the more folksy side of a Led Zeppelin record.
