10 Best Stereophonics Songs

7. A Thousand Trees - Word Gets Around

Being the first track from the band's first album, A Thousand Trees is likely the first exposure that many people had to the Stereophonics. And a brilliant introduction to a band it is.

Inspired by real-life events, the song tells the story of a school teacher whose reputation is ruined after allegations are made about him. The narrator of the song himself seems to have a connection to the teacher, but the song never explicitly states whether or not the allegations were true, a subtle sign of the songwriting talent present in this song. Jones' ability to write about the events around him is terrifically on display with A Thousand Trees.

As well as the lyrical content, the musical backing of original trio Kelly Jones, Stuart Cable and Richard Jones is captivating, yet skilfully simple, making for an opening track packed with energy that perfectly displays the proficiency of the Stereophonics right from the onset.

The chorus of this song actually comes from a phrase printed on boxes of England's Glory matches. Inspiration really can come from anywhere.
