10 Best Two-Album Wonders In Rock Music History
1. The Traveling Wilburys
What began as ex-Beatle George Harrison getting some mates together to record a bonus track for his new album, spawned the most stunning combination of musicians ever seen in one act.
Alongside Harrison, Tom Petty of The Heartbreakers' fame, the Electric Light Orchestra's Jeff Lynne, rock royalty Roy Orbison, and the legendary Bob Dylan formed this posse of fictional brothers and released the delightful Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 in 1988.
Thanks to the combined drawing power of five future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Vol. 1 went platinum in the UK and triple platinum in America.
The project was rocked by the death of Orbison in late '88, but carried on and put out a second album two years later. It was called... Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3? So that's where Chickenfoot got it from!
Vol. 3 was also a big seller, shifting over a million copies in the USA. Unfortunately, this would be it for the Wilburys, as their travels came to an end.
Even with just two albums to their name, this astonishing collection of musical talent remains the very pinnacle of the word "supergroup".
Sorry, Chickenfoot.
