10 Best Two Guitar Bands
4. Judas Priest
When many metal fans think of Judas Priest, the focus almost immediately goes to Rob Halford's screaming vocals. However, the riffs and solos behind the Metal God may have been the sole reason metal exists in the form that it is today.
On both sides of the spectrum, KK Downing and Glenn Tipton's approaches to soloing and riff crafting had just the right amount of contrast to put them one notch above their contemporaries. While Tipton's leads were mind-melting with their powerful display of tenacity, Downing was the madman who used the whammy bar to enhance the intensity of every Priest tune. When the two joined forces for the main riff, the wall of sound created was something to behold.
In addition to differing solos, the band was one of the pioneers in introducing guitar harmony into the rock world. Even though many were used to the vocal harmonies of older bands, the guitar harmonies that Priest cultivated gave them the metallic edge they needed to set them apart.
Thanks to their twin guitar hysteria, Judas Priest were able to forge ahead in hard rock and form the basis of what would become the standard of heavy metal.
