10 Best William DuVall Era Alice In Chains Songs

1. Phantom Limb

Phantom Limb is one of the most perfectly crafted and immensly heavy Alice in Chains songs and is the clear focal point of The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here and arguably the band's entire history.

The chugging main guitar riff is compounded by thundering bass and drums, making for a sonically vicious intro. AiC flipped the usual formula on it's head with Phantom Limb's structure. The verses are loud and marching, peaking with an intense pre-chorus section. The chorus winds the song down to more minimal music accompanied by DuVall's expressive howl. This song subverts expectations and is representative of everything that modern Alice in Chains is.

This is the centre piece of The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here and rightly so. It's quality is highlighted even more so due to the album as a whole containing a few filler songs. While Alice in Chains isn't exactly the same band as it was with Layne Staley, this song exemplifies the artistry these individuals are capable of.

This is a worthy AiC song and could justifiably rank among their best of all time, not just with William DuVall.
