10 Big Takeaways Foo Fighters: Medicine At Midnight - Album Review

Foo Fighters Medicine At Midnight
Matt Sayles/AP

To summarise, this album has a little bit of everything for any fan of The Foo Fighters. Sure, they may sound a little different than what we are used to but the core of what makes them great has not changed. Is there Grohl's signature soaring vocals? Check. Riffs that rock so hard they'll turn your brain into Play Doh? Check. A reminder that these are without a doubt one of the greatest bands in existence? Double Check.

What I love most about this album is that these guys could so easily have phoned it in. If we're honest, we'd probably download/buy anything these guys put out. This album could well have been a predictably formulaic Foo Fighters album and it would still give us immeasurable pleasure to listen to but these guys decided to try something new. The fact they are still trying to push themselves after all these years is a reminder they aren't just hard-rock machines who churn out albums for the sake of it, but they are artists.

For that reason, and for the various musical arrangements, the song writing and the boldness I am giving this album four stars out of five.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
