10 Big Takeaways Foo Fighters: Medicine At Midnight - Album Review

2. Where Does It Rank Amongst The Other Albums?

It is insanely difficult to consistently churn out new music without resorting to type which is why I so highly commend this album. Choosing a new direction for an album can so easily blow up in your face, The Clash did it with Cut The Crap, Beastie Boys did it with The Mix Up and despite those bands having legendary status, those attempts went down as colossal let downs. Medicine At Midnight will not be tarnished with that same brush.

The genius of this album is that The Foo Fighters were able to navigate these unchartered waters so beautifully whilst simultaneously not losing their identity and that is a staggering achievement. Although their last 3 studio albums haven't been at all bad and they had some incredible songs on them, they weren't particularly cohesive albums so much as a records with filler songs in between the hits.

Medicine At Midnight feels more like a united narrative and highly enjoyable from start to finish. I would put it around fourth in their back catalogue between Wasting Light and There Is Nothing Left To Lose.
