There's probably a joke in here somewhere about getting kicked out of Metallica for drinking too much. I mean, when your band drinks so much that your fanbase affectionately nicknamed you Alcoholica, the idea of being stone cold sober almost feels wrong. There was a line where the fun stopped though...and apparently Dave Mustaine crossed it.

Just as Metallica were making their way out to the East Coast, Dave's behavior led to them kicking him out of the band just before going in to make the next record. This wasn't just some regular guitar slinger either, seeing how Dave's writing credits for the band have turned up on nearly every single Metallica record in one form or another up until Master of Puppets.

That's not the backstabbing part...no that comes with the way they decided to fire him. Instead of just reading him the riot act or giving him any sort of warning, the guys woke Dave up early in the morning, kicked him out, and sent him packing back to the West Coast within the span of what looked to be about an hour's worth of time. Though the metal scene is not known for being the most accommodating of genres for the artists, this is almost Arctic Circle levels of cold that happened here. Though Mustaine would pick himself up later, this wouldn't be the first time hostile Metallica reared its head.
