10 Biggest Drop-offs In Rock History

9. Guns N Roses

When looking at the career trajectory of most rock and roll acts, Guns N Roses seemed to grow up at an alarming rate. After making one of the hungriest sounding debut albums ever on Appetite for Destruction, the group went for a pretty sizable chunk of the record industry with their double record Use Your Illusion. The ceiling had been reached...now it was time for Axl Rose to show his stuff.

For as many stadium tours came with the success of the Illusion records, Rose's erratic behavior came at the expense of the rest of the band, who ended up either quitting in protest or being fired halfway through the tour cycle. No matter...Axl will just make the thing himself, right? Well...yes....in about a decade and a half.

Once Chinese Democracy was finally released on the world back in 2008, the hype had gone down considerably since the mid '90s. Since Axl was slaving away with dozens upon dozens of musicians at his disposal, the record sounds like it's coming from two different sides of his brain, which it very well may be considering that these takes were probably from different decades entirely. Granted, this does sound like the record that Axl probably wanted to make...but the amount of anticipation that we went through just to get it was a burn we still haven't recovered from.
