10 Biggest Feuds In Rock Music History
9. Anthony Keidis Vs Mike Patton
The 1980s and '90s were full of acts blending different genres into new and intriguing sounds. With Beastie Boys, Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, all fusing rap and hard rock into an exciting sub-genre.
But the similarities between the early Chili Peppers sound and Faith No More's, far from being unifying, caused a rift between the two lead singers.
After the release of Faith No More's music video for Epic, Anthony Kiedis accused Mike Patton of ripping off his dance moves, which to be fair to Patton seems like a bit of a spurious claim, how else is someone supposed to bust a move to rap rock, other than over exaggerated arm and head movements?
The animosity was further exacerbated in 1999, when Patton's new band Mr. Bungle had their album release date pushed back due to concerns the title California would be confused with the Chili's album Californication.
Mr. Bungle reacted by mocking the Chili Peppers, performing a number of their classic hits, while dressed as the band and referencing the death of the Chili's previous guitarist Hillel Slovak.
That only caused Keidis to flex his influential muscles, however, by getting Mr. Bungle removed from a number of upcoming festivals.
