10 Biggest Sell Out Albums In Hard Rock Music History

7. Path of Totality - Korn

At the dawn of the 2010’s, there was definitely a love/hate relationship going on in the world of dubstep. As much as some fans thought that this was going to become the future of rebellious music as we know it, there were just as many rock fans who thought that these guys were just trying to fake their way to the top with a couple bass drops and an 808. Dubstep had a dark tinge to it though, and Korn tried to make that their new wheelhouse going into Path of Totality.

Using Skrillex as one of the main producers for this album, a lot of the songs on here made for a bit of a mess when they actually brought the dubstep elements into play. Even though that abrasive sound feels like its tailormade for a dark band like Korn, their idea of blending it with their old style just felt like a cacophony of noise, where the low end is dominated by Skrillex trying to compete with Fieldy’s bass parts in the bottom of the mix.

After you have the lackluster foundation, Jonathan Davis’ vocals on top of everything never seem to fit very well, as he usually sticks to his creepy schtick and lands somewhere in the neighborhood of a B-list horror movie villain whenever he steps up to sing. There’s definitely a place for nu metal and dubstep to work together, but this album is the equivalent of these guys smushing both genres together and hoping for the best.
