10 Biggest-Selling Rock Music Albums Of All Time

4. Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin

You can't really get around talking about the greatest rock music of all time and not bring up Led Zeppelin. Outside of a select few groups in the '60s, Zeppelin were the true archetype that sculpted the future of what rock and roll was going to become, with Jimmy Page leading the charge with his dynamic approach to guitar riffs. And when they hunkered down and created their magnum opus, critics absolutely....hated it.

Yeah, no joke. Once Led Zeppelin's fourth self titled record was unleashed on the world, most of the critics panned it for being way too derivative and too over the top to be taken seriously. 23 million copies sold later, it's clear why critics don't always know what they have on their hands, with songs like Rock and Roll and Black Dog having some of the most freewheeling rock music ever pressed to vinyl (or plastic for that matter).

And we also have to pay our due respect to a little song called Stairway to Heaven, who's legacy is so big that any guitar player working in a music shop will go insane if they hear the opening guitar riff one more time. Considering how contentious and snobby some of the usual gatekeepers of hard rock can be, it's nice to have an album that we all universally agree is awesome for a change.
