10 Biggest-Selling Rock Music Albums Of All Time
5. The Wall - Pink Floyd
Any self aware fan of '70s rock fan will probably be familiar with the prism from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon like the back of their hand. With just 10 tracks, the world's greatest prog rock band shifted their sound inside out and came through with a record that set the template for how rock could be taken seriously in a creative format. So how the hell is the sprawling epic story told across 2 discs the one that took them over the top?
Seriously...if you go back and look at the sales figures for the Wall, you can't make up this stuff, going on to sell more than 23 million copies across the world. If you listen to what the Floyd were serving up here, it makes a little more sense, with the sticky chorus and guitar fills of Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 going over well with the disco surge going on at the time.
Once people actually listened to what they were hearing though, it was easy to connect the dots with the story, as we hear about Pink's trials and tribulations about living a meaningless life and wanting to throw everything away behind a wall. Not all of us are going to know what it's like to be a rockstar and go on a fascist tirade, but we all know a thing or two about loneliness, and Pink Floyd made it real on these two slabs of vinyl.
