10 Biggest Shows In Rock History
1. Monsters of Rock in Moscow '91
Whenever talking about the biggest concerts ever, a certain amount of serendipity comes into play at the best of times. Whether it's a few bands hungry to take on the world or veteran acts looking to tear the roof off the place again, each act has their own reasons for annihilating the crowd they have in front of them. Or in Monsters of Rock's case, tearing down the establishment happening around them.
Going into '91, the rabid desire for hard rock resulted in one of the greatest concerts Moscow had ever seen, with Queensryche getting everything started at the beginning of the night. While the prog rock legends were starting to gain traction around this time, it was Pantera who really stole the show, brandishing enough kickass in their set to send the audience into a frenzy on the strength of Cowboys From Hell.
The final thing that set everything in motion was Metallica at the end of the night, as they towered over the stage like the legends of rock they were slowly becoming off the strength of the Black Album. This also proved to be a dangerous show as well, with a handful of people getting savagely assaulted in the ensuing melee. As the Soviet Union would start to fall shortly after this, this show alone was enough to tell you that things were going to start looking a lot different.
