10 Biggest Shows In Rock History
9. Lollapalooza 1992
It's almost hard to imagine how seamless the original version of Lollapalooza came together. Long before the alternative boom of rock music started to sweep across the world, this little festival directed by Jane's Addiction Perry Farrell was just meant to expose the world to the more outlandish sides of rock music. However, these relative unknowns weren't going to stay that way for long in 1992.
With grunge really starting to pick up traction at the time, you could see acts like Soundgarden and Pearl Jam getting top billing alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the main stage. Despite being the big-ticket acts, the secondary stages were still a hodge podge of soon to be legendary artists, with Rage Against the Machine being one of the most outlandish acts on the bill. For every act like Cypress Hill on one stage, you could also find rock royalty like Stone Temple Pilots and even prog legends Tool gracing the back half of the bill.
Hell, even the heavyhitters on the bill elected to leave the main stage for a little while to reform the grunge supergroup Temple of the Dog, which culminated in singalongs of Hunger Strike across the fields. As opposed to a bunch of flashes in the pan, this early look into the first days of Lollapalooza were a virtual smorgasbord of musical giants.
