10 Biggest WTF Moments In 2000s Rock
1. Lordi Win Eurovision
Okay, we're out of the sad section now and we're finishing on a high.
And what a high this was.
Eurovision is supposed to be a songwriting and singing competition, but in reality, it's an excuse for everyone in Europe to get tanked up and watch some of the craziest performances of the year.
The contest is usually won by power pop dance tracks or soppy love ballads, but not in 2006. In 2006, it was won by a bunch of dudes dressed up as Lovecraftian monsters.
Finnish rock outfit Lordi scored a shocking victory with a song called Hard Rock Hallelujah. Everybody had written them off as a joke entry, but the people of Europe made the right decision and voted in droves for their new demonic overlords.
Whilst this seems like the outcome of mass entactogen taking or some sort of sketch show prank, this really happened. It is by far and away the heaviest song to ever win the competition, and Lordi's win remains one of the best feelgood moments that the show has ever produced.
Rock on, giant monster men, we salute you.
