10 Biggest WTF Moments In 2000s Rock
2. The Murder Of Dimebag
As the guitarist for both Pantera and Damageplan, "Dimebag Darrell" Abbott is widely regarded as one of the greatest metal players of all time.
An early adopter of groove metal, Dimebag's signature style made Pantera a household name amongst rock fans and inspired countless people to pick up and axe and start shredding.
On 8th December 2004, Dimebag was playing a show in Columbus, Ohio. It seemed like an ordinary night, until one of the audience members started shooting.
Armed with a semi-automatic pistol, the perpetrator stormed the stage and fired four times at Dimebag, killing him on the spot. He then went on to kill four more people, including the band's head of security, before he too was shot dead by a police officer.
This utterly senseless act of violence ripped a hole in the rock community that has never been truly filled. Dimebag Darrell was a one of a kind talent who had amassed thousands of fans all over the world. Then, in one moment of madness, he was taken away.
America's issues with guns have been well-documented and even a music legend wasn't safe from them.
