10 Biggest WTF Moments In 2020s Rock So Far

2. Taylor Hawkins Dies

Another fantastic drummer who sadly lost his life in the early 2020s was Taylor Hawkins, best known for slapping the skins for the Foo Fighters.

Hawkins joined Dave Grohl's post-Nirvana project in 1997, contributing to the album The Colour and the Shape in the wake of original drummer William Goldsmith's departure.

He played on every Foos record after that, even taking over lead vocal duties on the songs Cold Day in the Sun and Sunday Rain. He also collaborated with artists ranging from Alanis Morrissette to Miley Cyrus to Queen.

On March 25th 2022, Hawkins was found unresponsive in his hotel room in Bogota, Columbia. He was declared dead at the scene, aged just 50.

An autopsy found that he had several substances in his system, including opioids, THC, and antidepressants. He had also complained of exhaustion in the days leading up to his death.

The sudden loss of one of rock's greatest modern drummers hit the world like a cannonball. The great and the good lined up to pay their respects to Hawkins, including at a heart-breaking series of tribute concerts where his son Shane played drums alongside his father's band.

Rest in peace to a legend.
