10 Biggest WTF Moments In '90s Rock Music

8. Hetfield Burns Up

With all the intricate components that go into a big show, things are bound to go wrong and, unfortunately, people get hurt.

Metallica have never been one to shy away from adding some spice to their performances, especially after they blew up in the early 90s after the release of The Black Album.

This record's mainstream success lead to a giant co-headline tour with Guns N' Roses in 1992. GNR were also experiencing an upswing in popularity, so this was a major event in the music calendar.

To match this, additional pyrotechnices were added to Metallica's set. Unfortunately, this resulted in lead singer James Hetfield standing in the way of the original pyro, which went off with him in the firing line.

Hetfield suffered second and third-degree burns to his left hand, arm, his eyebrows, and his face.

If he hadn't been holding his guitar, things could have been much worse. Incredibly, he was back onstage less than three weeks later, despite almost being burnt to a crisp live on stage.

Thank God their setlist didn't include their song Jump in the Fire, otherwise this could have been a very different story.
