On 11 May 1981, the most popular reggae musician of all-time, Bob Marley, died of brain cancer at the age of 36.

As is often the case with a legendary musician who dies young, there are those who don't buy the official story. In this instance, rappers T.I. and Busta Rhymes are reportedly among those who believe the CIA had a hand in Marley's death.

The main premise for this theory is based on the alleged death bed confessions of former CIA agent named Bill Oxley. He is said to have admitted to the murder of Marley and seventeen other individuals during his time with the organization.

Oxley claimed to have gained backstage access to the singer, at which point he gave him a pair of Converse shoes. One of the shoes contained a nail that was tainted with the cancer virus and other bacteria. Apparently, the CIA feared Marley would incite a revolution, which they hoped to prevent by murdering the singer.

However, Africa Check, a fact check website, dismisses these claims as a hoax. The site states that the original source of the story is a 'fake news' site called YourNewsWire.

Moreover, Africa Check also claims the CIA has no record of a man named William (or Bill) Oxley working for the organization. Lastly, the photo of an elderly caucasian man in the hospital, which was used in the initial article, turned out to a Polish photographer.
