10 Bizarre Metal Covers Of Classic Songs

1. When The Levee Breaks - A Perfect Circle

Covering Led Zeppelin should be a no brainer for any metal band. Since these were the guys who pretty much popularized the idea of heavy music, why not pay tribute to the greats every once in a while? And A Perfect Circle definitely did do Zeppelin justice...just not in the way that you thought they would.

Off of their covers album eMotive, their take on When the Levee Breaks piles on a lot more darkness than even Zeppelin were willing to do on their own version of the bluesy classic. Aside from keeping the lyrics and structure, everything about this cover is original, bringing in different synths and electronic elements to make for a desolate landscape whenever you listen to the song. Courtesy of James Iha, this captures the spirit of what it feels like to find yourself without a home and nowhere else to turn.

And it's not like this was just some in studio experiment either. When APC actually took this to the Red Rocks Festival at the time, it went over just as well, with Billy Howerdel's guitar practically mimicking the screams of the victims crying out for help as a result of the broken levee. Like the song says though, crying won't do you no good where this song is headed. You're better just batting down the hatches and hoping for the best.
