10 Bizarre Metal Covers Of Classic Songs
2. Land Of Confusion - Disturbed
Say what you want to about their original music, but Disturbed has always been able to knock it out of the park when it comes to their covers. Hell, just look at how delicately they treated their version of Simon and Garfunkel's Sound of Silence to show how they can bring aggro to the classics from the '60s. If there was one cover that shouldn't have worked for a nu metal crossover though, it should have been one from Genesis' pop years.
Yeah, this isn't the days of Peter Gabriel, instead being a reinterpolation of the pop staple that Genesis had with Phil Collins behind the mic for their album Invisible Touch. But really...are these two genres all that distant from one another? Even though there are a millions reasons why this shouldn't work on paper, the original Land of Confusion already had a bit of a bite to it, which David Draiman amplifies by 1000 when he lets his booming register soar on the chorus.
Think about this though. This is one of the most signature songs of Genesis' pop years, and yet Disturbed pumped it up with so much adrenaline that they could have practically released it as their own single and it would have charted. That kind of spark only comes when you have someone who really respects the artists that came before them.
