10 Bizarre Reasons Songs Were Banned From The Radio

9. Upsetting The San Francisco Giants - Royals

It's fair to say that the World Series is a serious event wherever it is held, but when the San Francisco Giants were set to play the Kansas City Royals in the first game of the 2014 World Series, tension seemed to call for more drastic measures.

In an effort not to offend any fans of the home team Giants, Lorde's 2013 hit was banned by several San Francisco radio stations for the duration of the World Series. The rival Kansas City Royals had taken the song as an unofficial anthem, something which seemingly infuriated Giants fans to the point that the song was temporarily banned from the radio.

Besides the title, the song itself has no connection to either team, with Lorde stating the inspiration for the track came from a photograph of George Brett, famed Kansas City Royal player. However, it was the title alone that seemed to stir enough trouble to result in it getting banned.

Who'd have thought that sport would lead to competitiveness?
