10 Blatantly Unfinished Albums (That Were Released Anyway)

8. Fall Out Boy - MANIA

Yet another example of an album that suffered from numerous delays before its eventual release, Fall Out Boy’s seventh studio record still seemed incomplete when it hit the shelves, with the tracklist on streaming services even being edited after Mania’s release.

After fans’ divisive response to the dubstep-influenced lead single “Young and Menace” (which, frankly, is one of the most exciting songs on offer here), the band returned to the studio to re-work much of the record, leading to a Frankenstein’s monster of an album which seems unsure of what exactly it is, with classic emo pop-punk (“Wilson”) sitting uncomfortably alongside experimental electronic rock (“The Last Of The Real Ones”), soul (“Heaven’s Gate”) and eyebrow-raising reggae fusion (“Sunshine Riptide”).

The second Fall Out Boy album to not have produced a Billboard 100 single, Mania is a case-study of what happens when a band doubles back on its original vision. Frontman Patrick Stump confirmed Mania had been delayed as it felt "rushed", but the final product doesn't fair much better.

For every song promising a much-needed shake-up to the Fall Out Boy formula, there's another which feels paint-by-numbers FOB (the forgettable "Champion"); and with the rousing "Young and Menace" - which fared much better as an opening statement, as per streaming sites' original tracklisting - being nonsensically relegated to the tail end of the record, it's a wonder it was included on the final cut at all.
