10 Bold Predictions For Heavy Metal In 2018
9. Max Cavalera Will Go Insane
Obviously we’re not expecting the founder of such influential metal bands as Cavalera Conspiracy and Sepultura to show up in a sanatorium by 2019. No, rather, what is meant by “Max Cavalera Will Go Insane” comes more from an album-orientated perspective, as fans are expecting new discs from both Soulfly and his Killer Be Killed supergroup this year.
At time of writing, Max is in full Soulfly mode, touring with the band first to commemorate the Nailbomb album Point Blank, and then soon after in a co-headliner with Nile. In interviews, the frontman has stated unabashedly that a new Soulfly album will rear its head in 2018, with work beginning after the Point Blank tour wraps up. He’s even described the musical style of the upcoming record, calling it a return to the more “tribal sounds” of Soulfly’s 1998 debut.
It is with Killer Be Killed that things get a bit more complicated. The group is a joint venture between himself, Greg Puciato and Troy Sanders. However, in late 2016, Max did say that the band would get back into gear when Greg’s work with Dillinger Escape Plan wraps up, which it now has. Also, Troy will probably need something to do as his Mastodon bandmate Brent Hinds continues his work in his Legend of the Seagullmen side-project with Tool drummer Danny Carey.
Who knows? 2018 could very well herald the first Killer Be Killed disc since 2014.
