10 Christmas Songs That Make You Want To Blow Your Brains Out

6. All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey (1994)

Key Lyrics I don't want a lot for Christmas There is just one thing I need And I don't care about the presents Underneath the Christmas tree While this was quite a fun record when it was first released in 1994, 20 years have rendered it an over played song which provokes the same sentiment in most listeners these days - one of dismay that it's being played for the 20th time that day. Is it just me, or is this song on every other Christmas television advert on British television? It is another jolly, uptempo number in which Mariah declares she doesn't need material presents for Christmas (yeah right!) just the presence of her lover will suffice. Mariah is in fine voice as always, but the ultra-happiness of the song promises a joyfulness that few people will achieve at Christmas. It is one of those songs that promise you Christmas is going to be really good when we know in our hearts it will be a pretty tedious affair in which we will watch rubbish TV all day, eat too much turkey and Quality Street, and get drunk on cheap plonk. Still, the song has been called one of the best Christmas tunes and radios love to play it incessantly.
