10 Classic Albums That NO ONE CARED ABOUT
6. Appetite for Destruction - Guns N Roses
To say that Appetite for Destruction was a gamechanger in the world of LA in the '80s would be drastically underselling it. For all intents and purposes, the debut of the World's Most Dangerous band is probably the true contender from what made the tides turn away from hair metal...not grunge. That is, until MTV actually got ahold of what they were listening.
Aside from a few radio stations in their native California, Appetite actually was a real workhorse to make it to the top of the charts, only receiving a little bit of airplay for the live concert footage for the song It's So Easy. There was even some trepidation as to whether MTV would play the video for Welcome to the Jungle, thinking that it would have been a bit too graphic for the average audience looking for something like Poison coming up.
Eventually relenting to play Jungle once at 6 in the morning, the entire rock scene seemed to switch on a dime once they heard it for the first time. This wasn't the pop metal schtick anymore...this was the type of band vibe that was sorely lacking from the new wave of rock bands. To put it another way, the hair bands may have had the rock element, but GNR put the roll back in rock and roll.
