10 Classic Albums That Were Originally Considered Failures

1. OK Computer - Radiohead

As the '90s drew to a close, Radiohead were in career limbo for a while. After having their first taste of success off of their grungy ballad Creep, Thom Yorke and co. tried to run as far away from that sound as possible, for fear of becoming known as a one hit wonder. OK Computer ended up shattering everyone's illusions, but you wouldn't have said that if you were part of the record label.

After first listening to the band's latest offering, EMI was severely underwhelmed by the new batch of tunes, to the point where they literally scaled back the sales expectations because they thought the album wouldn't sell. Once the album reached the public though, the world knew exactly what the band was drawing from.

Combining lush soundscapes with an arena-sized sound, every single track on this album feels like an experience unto itself, whether it's the three part suite that is put together in Paranoid Android to the swirling Armageddon that comes down on Exit Music (For a Film). Even with over two decades under its belt, OK Computer still sounds like the future of rock music, with many bands still trying to copy it. Radiohead may have underwhelmed the corporate world, but when something hits this close to home, any bigwig opinion starts to fade away.
