10 Classic Albums With Terrible Album Covers
7. Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters
By mid 1995, the Foo Fighters debut record felt like a ray of light across the rock scene. Even though the wound from Kurt Cobain's suicide was still too raw, Dave Grohl managed to pick himself up, dust himself off, and strike out on his own with one of the greatest alternative debuts of his generation. Though many classic Foos cuts appear on this album, the packaging reeks of dated '90s cliches.
Given that Grohl was such a big fan of science fiction, the actual album cover is a picture taken of one of the ray guns used by Buck Rogers back in the day. While it may have elicited some cool retro accolades in its time, the fact that it has absolutely nothing to do with the music definitely docks it a few points. On the other hand, Dave sort of has a mulligan for this cover.
Originally, the band's debut LP was supposed to be just a demo cassette Grohl was making for himself, which explains why he put together a random cover to go with it. However, once labels picked up on it, it was quickly rushed to mainstream labels and became one of the biggest records of the year. The band would get more classy album covers down the road, but this is just one of those pictures you look at once and never think about again.
