10 Classic Albums With Terrible Album Covers

5. Killing is my Business - Megadeth

When Dave Mustaine returned to California in the early '80s, he clearly had an axe to grind. Not only did he have the displeasure of being kicked out of Metallica, but now he found himself without a band. Though it didn't take him long to put together Megadeth, their first step up to the plate with Killing is My Business saw the artwork take a drastic nosedive.

Looking to take a page from his metal brethren, Mustaine's original idea for the album cover was to have a demented skull and crossbones, which felt more in line with the Satanic look of Slayer or the murderous frame of Kill Em All. However, the actual props for this fledgling band ended up being less than stellar, with the "skull" at hand looking more like a piece of marshmallow fluff that you designed to look like a skull for Halloween.

While the music inside is some of the fastest thrash metal of the time, Mustaine was furious with the artwork, going so far as to yell at the label execs for the way it was handled. The band later re-released their debut with a much more tasteful artwork, but for a while, this was one of the most laughable covers to ever find its way onto a metal release.
