10 Classic Music Albums That Will Make You Love Nu Metal

6. Fallen - Evanescence

While nu metal has always had a ton of emotion behind it, it's never been that concerned with melody all too often. If you listen to something like Limp Bizkit, there's a lot of time focused on the flow of the rhymes rather than actually writing something you sing or scream along to. There were some real superstars in the genre though, and Amy Lee gave us a tour de force performance on Fallen.

And before anyone says anything, this album is about so much more than just the "WAKE ME UP" song. Taking their cues from more symphonic rock a lot of the time, Amy's pipes are one of the biggest shakeups that the nu metal world had ever heard, making for something a lot prettier than the metal screams on songs like My Immortal. From the moment that she starts singing, the metallic foundation of the track almost goes away so you can focus on the melody at the center of it all.

This is still an album with teeth though, and the actual bite behind something like Going Under is a lot more potent than you probably remember, despite being tied to a movie like the Ben Affleck Daredevil. For all of the other great material that Evanescence have pumped out since their debut, it's never the same after you hear the angst on here for the first time.
