10 Classic Rock Albums That Got Better Over Time

6. Desperado - Eagles

It's hard to really talk about an album getting better over time when it has some of the band's greatest hits on it. For most fans of the Eagles, Desperado is where things started to get a lot more mature, with Glenn Frey and Don Henley really recognizing their strengths as a songwriting team. If you were to ask their higher ups back in the day, this was the album that ended their career for good.

Coming off of their LA-flavored debut, this is the kind of cowboy record that should have been the total antithesis of what was happening in rock at the time. As you peel back the layers of everything, you have to give the guys credit for making a full blown concept album out of these songs, bringing in some new songs and fleshing out old ones to create a vivid picture of the modern outlaw. If you listen to something like the title track and Certain Kind of Fool, you can definitely get a sense of these folks from the wrong side of the tracks that are probably going to lose their lives in a shootout.

Even on some of the mellower tracks like Tequila Sunrise and Bitter Creek, you can hear the subtle nods to the pleasures of the lifestyle, using alcohol as a means to calm your nerves every once in a while. What it all amounts to is a record that makes for a great companion for those who find their home in the open road, whether that be on the run or on tour.
