10 Classic Rock Albums That Were AHEAD OF THEIR TIME

8. RAM - Paul McCartney

It felt like the collective wind had been knocked out of the entire rock scene once the Beatles announced their breakup. After making some of the most monumental music of the decade, the thought of the Fab Four not working together into the next decade had many people worried about the future of rock. And while John Lennon and George Harrison found their footing on their first solo joints, Paul McCartney's RAM was something you had to sit with for a while.

Working with his wife Linda in a studio in New York, no one could have expected this out of the Cute Beatle at the time. Given his reputation as one of the biggest perfectionists in the band, seeing him make an album with a ramshackle feel and weird songs like Monkberry Moon Delight had many people wondering what he was even doing anymore. Those little quirks weren't blemishes by any means though.

In fact, the weirdness of this album is exactly what gives it character, with most of the songs having a slightly indie feel to them years before anybody was even using that term. From a ukulele tune to pop opera sounding songs like Back Seat of My Car, RAM does whatever the hell it wants and doesn't care what anyone thinks. You might as well learn this now, kids: there are no rules in music.
