10 Classic Rock Albums With Only One Bad Song
1. Run For Your Life - The Beatles
Most of the '60s turned out the way they did because of the Beatles. Outside of leading the British Invasion at the start of their career on the Ed Sullivan Show, they quickly pivoted to more new and exciting ideas for the rest of the decade, with Rubber Soul being the starting point. While every song on here is incredible in its own way, there's no reason for Run For Your Life to have even seen the light of day at all.
At this point, the love songs that the Fabs were writing were a lot more nuanced and mature than their usual output, from the bohemian style girl in Norwegian Wood to the eventual love song to growing old on In My Life. So naturally that means that we have to close things off with a song about a guy who will outwardly threaten violence to his girlfriend if she dares to cheat on him.
Whereas a singer like Elvis could have made this song work if played correctly, the bite in John Lennon's voicejust feels forced, as if he's trying to summon up the rock and roll badass energy and coming up dreadfully short. The Fabs themselves weren't even fans of the song either, and Lennon remained ashamed of putting it out for years. As much as the Beatles tried to break down social boundaries, this is the only case that could be made for them writing a misogynist song.
