10 Classic Rock Bands That Ripped Off Themselves
1. Don't Stop - The Stone Roses
If a band ever decides to crib notes from one of their old songs, they do have a few options. Whether it's the construction of what they did before or just sprinkling in some of the same lyrics, you can always find different ways to morph your old sound into something that's slightly different. In the case of the Stone Roses though, their ripoff is actually one of the few that actually seems a lot more artistic.
Right after their peppy song Waterfall off of their debut, we're treated to Don't Stop, which has more than a few passing similarities with the song we just got done listening to. Compared to the last one, there's a lot more airy feel to this song, with the instruments almost sounding like they're being beamed in from the other side of the world. There's a catch to this whole setup though: it's backwards.
When the band were originally making this track in the studio, they took the basis of the song Waterfall and played it backwards, using completely different lyrics and crafting a new song out of that. They even tried to make it fit in with Waterfall as well, since the lyrics of the song were meant to mimic what the band members thought they were saying when they were hearing the vocals backwards. Rock and roll may have indulged itself with backwards music a lot of the time, but not many bands can claim that they have a song that they can play both backwards and forwards.
