10 Classic Rock Bands That Ripped Off Themselves
9. Crazy - Aerosmith
For every dyed in the wool Aerosmith fan, it has not been fun looking in on the band for the past few decades. Ever since the '90s, it looked like the band were going pop and leaving all of the down and dirty blues side of their sound in the dust. That's fine as long as the music kicks ass though, and if you don't try to write the same song twice on the exact same record.
Being the moment that they started to work with outside songwriters for their material, Crazy was the main event of the Alicia Silverstone era of the band, showing them go for a much more lovesick tone than what we were used to. Just before we get to Crazy, we also have Cryin, which sounds nearly identical to this song, from the slower groove of the tune to the fact that both of them are in the exact same key.
And what makes it even worse is the fact that these were both released as singles with their own distinct video, almost like they were drawing attention to the similarities. The liner notes of the album say that Steven Tyler and Joe Perry worked with two distinct outside songwriters for this, but you can't say that they didn't look at Cryin, tweak a few things, and just passed this off as the unofficial sequel.
