10 Classic Rock Bands That Went Disco

4. The Rolling Stones

As disheartening as disco might sound, you can't blame a lot of these acts for at least trying. After all, most of these rockers are just getting started in the music business and are trying to keep their momentum going in whatever way they can. It's a different story when you're a seasoned veteran and still manage to find yourselves playing catch up though.

Once the flash of their '70s era came and went, The Stones found themselves in transition once again, going back to the old bluesy songs that they made back in the day. On Some Girls though, it looked like they were about to get swallowed by the disco monster, with songs like Miss You having a disco flavored bassline and never seeming to get out of first gear from the moment it starts. As you dig into the rest of the album though, the Stones actually aren't too shabby on the danceable stuff either.

Blues has always been music that you could dance to, and the rest of the record is just your typical Stones album with a heavy emphasis on the rhythm guitar of Keith Richards, especially on tracks like Shattered where they get really nasty on the guitar riffs. You can put the Stones in disco clothing all you want to, but they are one of the few bands that have rock and roll built into their DNA.
