10 Classic Rock Bands That Went Disco

5. Queen

Whenever a rock band tries to go disco, there's always a 50/50 shot as to whether it will actually be any good. Compared to some acts that try to hop on the hype train of a new genre, most of them just try their hand at something without knowing what it is and pray that their fanbase jumps on board with them as well. As Queen got into disco, they proved that weren't just going to try out a new genre. They were going to dominate it.

Once the band started to work on some more radio friendly material on the Game, the unstoppable force of John Deacon's bassline on Another One Bites the Dust was just the right way to ease them into the disco genre. Pairing it up with Freddie Mercury's booming voice, the entire song was one of the songs that managed to ease the band into the next generation. And for that you have Michael Jackson to thank.

Being a major Queen fan for most of his life, Jacko actually stopped by their recording studio one afternoon and insisted that the song make the record, thinking it would an immediate hit. This started a bit of a competition, with Jackson making Thriller shortly thereafter and Queen getting more into pop music on albums like Hot Space. While it's debatable whether that record has held up all that much, Queen were the kings of pop rock the second this song hit the airwaves.
