10 Classic Rock Songs That Use 3 Chords Or Less
6. Dreams - Fleetwood Mac
The entire concept behind the album Rumours really deserves an article unto itself. When you have two different couples in your band breaking up at the exact same time, it's a damn miracle that the end result actually sounds this good half the time. Then again, a lot can be done when you have that much emotion behind you.
In between Lindsey Buckingham's seething going on in songs like Go Your Own Way, Stevie Nicks has a lot more mellow feelings in Dreams, which just rests itself on two chords for most of the runtime. The one catch in this song is that the key of the song is never played on the guitar, making the entire melody feel like it's floating on air from the minute that you hear it. And that gives Buckingham a lot more room as a guitar player as well, using different volume swells to create the tense atmosphere that the song needs.
There's definitely a troubled soul in the center of this song, but the entire track feels like a journey through every different stage of love. Even though the song itself might feel like romantic bliss at the start, the lyrics are what happens when you're left to pick up the pieces of what just happened. It's a bit hazy right now, but you'll be okay in the long run.
