10 Classic Rock Songs That Use 3 Chords Or Less

5. Loser - Beck

So here's a challenge: what genre would you even classify someone like Beck? It might be easy to just put him in the alternative category and leave it at that, but the amount of ground he has covered with his music has gone from country leaning rock to some of the most artistic music to come out of the past decade. And we should have seen it coming considering what he can do with a guitar lick.

Yeah, it turns out 3 chords were too much for Mr. Hansen to use, with most of this song just being a loop of one slide guitar lick on an acoustic. Then again, this is not really a song that's set on the musical side of things. No, you're here for the verses and the absolutely bug nutty bars he's spitting, which are some of the most out there lyrics that the '90s have ever spat out.

To his credit though, this song was always a lot closer to hip hop in its production, with most of the beat just soaking up that one musical fragment for all it's worth. If anything, this is just a testament to the kind of stuff that you could get away with in the world of '90s rock. The musical rules were always made to be broken, so why not just carry on with the cheese whizz and don't give a damn what anyone else has to say?
