Although music purists might disagree, there is significant overlap in the definitions of a "remix" and a "cover." Really, the only major difference between the two is that the remix holds onto a couple of basic, core elements from the original song, and it's typically the same performer doing the vocals on both tracks. Other than that, all rules for what constitutes a "remix" are pretty damn vague, which leaves a whole lotta room for a song to be chopped up and changed around. Often, a remixed version is nothing more than a little bonus for fans to jam to, something to let them hear the song in a different light (and hopefully make the artist a few extra bucks). Other times, they sound like bad photocopies of the original, with someone adding in a few splashes of ink here and there. So it's pretty rare for a remix to come along that completely blows the original out of the water. But as you're about to find out, that doesn't mean it's impossible.
