10 Classic Songs That Were Recorded Incredibly Fast

5. Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard

If there's any band that should be nowhere close to fast recording, it's Def Leppard. Seeing how many vocal layers they put on every chorus alone, it's no wonder why their classic album Hysteria took almost 4 complete years to actually hit store shelves. Then again, if they ended up cutting corners, we would have missed out on one of the greatest anthems of the '80s.

For the longest time, Leppard were slogging away at making a tight-knit 11 track album, until Joe Elliott started jamming on the chorus of Pour Some Sugar On Me in between takes. Knowing the massive hook he had on his hands, producer Mutt Lange demanded to cut a version of the tune for the album, even though they were already months behind schedule. After playing around with Dictaphones in between the sessions though, Mutt's utterance of "Love is like a bomb" made the entire song flow in no time at all.

Once everything was tidied up in the vocal department, the final recording took a matter of just a few weeks before it was in good enough shape to get on the album. In retrospect, Sugar ended up saving the record, sending it into the stratosphere after getting picked up on pop radio. While the afterglow of Pyromania had been fun, this was the sign that Def Leppard-mania was about to kick into high gear.
