10 Classic Songs That Weren't Supposed To Be Hits
3. The Masterplan - Oasis
Sometimes you get those few artists that are able to have one classic period in their career. While some might start their career already hot with amazing material, others have to wait a little bit before picking up steam. In Oasis' case though, Noel Gallagher hit on a groove where even the throwaways were amazing.
After Definitely Maybe set the world on fire off the strength of tracks like Supersonic and Cigarettes and Alcohol, Noel was ready to step up to the big leagues with What's the Story Morning Glory, which blew its predecessor out of the water.
Along with the actual studio tracks, Noel was also tasked with writing B-sides for tracks like Don't Look Back in Anger, which resulted in one of his greatest songs in The Masterplan. Instead of just taking it at face value, Noel's record company actually rejected it at first, saying that it was too good to just be a B-side.
However, Noel insisted that it be put on the B-side, saying that it wasn't his call as to whether something was too good or not. At the same time, Noel seemed to change his tune over the years, going so far as to suggest re-releasing the song as a single in its own right. Seeing how Oasis would never reached these gargantuan heights again, this record at least serves as a fond farewell to one of Britpop's true giants.
