10 Classic Songs With Killer Guest Stars
3. Champagne Supernova - Oasis
It was like a bolt of lightning hearing Oasis break onto the rock scene with Definitely Maybe.
From front to back, the band's first record became one of the most successful debuts in history, with classics like "Live Forever" and "Slide Away" becoming some of the most classic songs of the decade. When getting material for their second outing, Noel Gallagher's plan was to do it all over again, but with a little help from his friends.
When going through most of the tracks, "Champagne Supernova" was the undisputed closer on the album, with a drone-like outro that perfectly captured the feeling of being high. For the most part, the record was finished, but when Gallagher ended up showing it off to his contemporaries, Paul Weller of the Jam offered to play guitar on one of the songs out of the blue.
While originally slated to play on the song "Morning Glory," Weller ended up contributing the spiraling guitar solo in the midpoint of "Supernova," which kicked the song into overdrive. Whereas the song was originally a drony piece of Britpop, these licks ended up being the final emphatic statement needed to wrap up the record nicely.
Oasis may have been claiming they were rock and roll stars before they were even famous, but this was when they really started to be part of the big leagues.
