10 Covers You Keep Mistaking For The Original Song

7. I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston

Original Artist: Dolly Parton

These days, it's nearly impossible to hear the title of this song and not immediately think of the late, great Whitney Houston. It was originally recorded for the film The Bodyguard in 1992, but since then, the song has exploded in popularity just by itself, due in large part to Houston's incredible singing voice. And in rather short order, it has come to be regarded as one of the greatest love songs of all time.

However, she was actually covering a song that was originally released by country icon Dolly Parton in 1974. Parton wrote the song as a farewell to her former partner and long-time mentor, Porter Wagoner, following her decision to pursue a solo career.

Parton's original version was, by all accounts, a commerical success upon its release. However, a quick Google search makes it apparent that Houson's cover is the more famous of the two.
