10 Covers You Keep Mistaking For The Original Song

4. Hurt - Johnny Cash

Original Artist: Nine Inch Nails

Hurt by Johnny Cash is undoubtedly one of the single saddest pieces of music in existence. It's a song about pain, regret, and death with no real silver lining to be found. The song was popular enough when it first came out, as the iconic Cash would pass away shortly after its release. Plus, it has recently been brought back into the spotlight thanks to its use in marketing material for the film, Logan.

Not only that, but the track also seems to fit the life of Cash to a T. That's why it may be surprising for some to learn that it was actually a cover. The original version of Hurt was written by the frontman of the industrial rock group Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor, and released by the band in 1995. Cash's version would not come out until 2003.

The reason this may skip some people's minds is because the thought of Johnny Cash of all people covering a Nine Inch Nails song definitely comes off as a bit bizarre.
