10 Covers You Keep Mistaking For The Original Song

5. Die, Die My Darling - Metallica

Original Artist: Misfits

In 1998, heavy metal icons Metallica released a cover album entitled Garage Inc.. Of all the songs featured on this album, however, few achieved quite the level of success as Die, Die My Darling. The song even earned itself a release as a single. As a result, it only grew in popularity, transcending the album it was released on in the process.

This, combined with the incredible amount of popularity that Metallica themselves had in the 90s, made many believe that it was a Metallica original.

In reality, the song was originally released by punk legends The Misfits about fifteen years earlier. And just like all the songs from The Misfits' original run, Die, Die My Darling was, in fact, the brainchild of Glenn Danzig. And while the original track was popular in the punk rock scene, it was Metallica who introduced it to a broader, more mainstream audience.
