10 Creepiest Paranormal Events In Rock Music
7. Cliff Burton's final artistic gasp
Once the thrash metal genre exploded in the mid '80s, there was no one who could touch Metallica. After conquering the metal world with Master of Puppets, the band went out on tour with Ozzy Osbourne and ended up giving the Prince of Darkness a run for his money every single night. The band were poised to become rock legends, until a bus crash in 1986 brought everything back to Earth.
Veering off the highway in the middle of the night, Metallica's bus flipped over, killing bassist Cliff Burton on impact. Back at square one, the metal titans rushed back home for the funeral and recruited Jason Newsted to fill in for Burton on the remainder of their tour dates. The group's grief was bound to turn up on the next record, but no one could have predicted it hitting so close to home.
On its own, To Live is to Die is a phenomenal portrayal of loss, which perfectly shows the band coming to terms with what happened. However, things take a turn in the final breakdown, where James Hetfield ends up reciting a poem written by Cliff just a few months before his demise. Their heart was certainly in the right place, but with this subtle little detail, Metallica made it look like one of their members was communicating from beyond the grave.
