10 Creepy Predictions In Songs That Came True

2. Wilco Predicted 9/11On Jesus, Etc

Chicago alt-rockers Wilco were old heads of the underground scene by 2001. Initially more of an offbeat country band than anything else when they formed back in 1994, their sound slowly transfigured itself into the mellow indie that they are renowned for today over the course of the late ‘90s.

Arguably the first time that they properly perfected their formula on record though, was just after the turn of the millennium. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot actually ran into problems with label Reprise when it was first written, with disagreements over the quality of the songs ultimately meaning that the group has to buy their way out of their contract just to put it out.

All of the drama surrounding its inception meant that it was held up several times before an eventual release date of September 11th 2001 was decided upon. Of course, that date has now become etched in history because of the terrorist attacks that brought down the World Trade Centre in New York, but the coincidences between that tragic event and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot are almost unbelievable.

Not only does the album cover feature two towers, but the song Jesus, Etc. contains the lyrics: “Tall buildings shake, voices escape singing sad, sad songs / Voices whine, skyscrapers are scraping together / Your voice is smoking”. Dreadfully sad and very, very bizarre in equal measure.
